Understanding mould

Most mould starts with everyday moisture.

Unless you've had a leak or flood damage, there's a good chance the mould in your home is the result of condensation: showering, cooking and drying clothes, combined with poor ventilation. Condensation is behind 80 to 85% of household mould.

Wiping mould down, even with bleach, can make the problem worse by releasing more spores into the air. Bleach takes the colour out of mould, so it looks gone while the mould underneath is still alive.

Attributed to the NHS

The NHS links damp and mould in the home to respiratory problems.

The law in England and Wales

Serious damp and mould can be rated a Category 1 hazard under the Housing Health and Safety Rating System in England and Wales, which councils must act on.

Our process

Diagnose. Match the method. Restore. Prove.

There is no silver bullet for mould. Every home is different, and every mould problem comes from its own mix of circumstances. So we work in four steps.

  1. Step 1

    Diagnose

Our technicians survey your property with professional diagnostic tools to find the likely cause of the mould and any visible growth. The aim is a clear picture of why the problem exists and, crucially, what can be done. Air tests, analysed by a laboratory, show the type and level of mould in your air.

  2. Step 2

    Match the method

Your treatment plan factors in the balance of humidity, air temperature, surface temperature, structural integrity, air pressure and ventilation in your home. Where condensation is the cause, we control the conditions. Where there is an active leak, we diagnose it and refer the repair to the right trade.

  3. Step 3

    Restore

We physically remove visible mould growth. Where water has damaged materials, we strip them out and dry the structure. Then we treat the whole home with our dry fog and apply EverPURE, a durable antimicrobial layer that helps resist regrowth.

  4. Step 4

    Prove

With our full PureHome treatment, we test your air before and after treatment, with an outdoor air sample as the control. The samples go to an independent accredited laboratory, and we give you the results in writing.

The technology

How dry fog works

Our patented dry fog reduces mould contamination and helps inhibit regrowth, and every treatment plan is built around your home. VERIFY: patent status

Our patented fogger turns our sterilant, InstaPURE, into droplets of roughly 7.5 microns, so small that the fog comes out dry. Because it can't condense on surfaces, it stays in the air and reduces airborne spores.

We treat in a sealed room under positive air pressure. The fog reaches every exposed surface the air touches, into folds and recesses a cloth can't, and stays there for the full dwell time before the room is cleared. Unlike a spray or wipe that only hits what you can reach, it treats surface and airborne mould in one pass.

Afterwards, the sterilant breaks down to acetic acid (vinegar), water and oxygen and is ventilated out, with no lasting disinfectant residue. Every treatment is applied under a COSHH assessment by trained technicians in PPE.

How we help

Three services, one method

Mould testing

Understand what's in your air. Our mould tests show whether fungal levels are abnormal and which types of mould are present, so any treatment is based on evidence.

Mould remediation

Our dry fog treats surface and airborne mould contamination. We remove the residue and apply EverPURE, a durable antimicrobial layer that helps resist regrowth.

Commercial

Treatment for workplaces and managed buildings, planned around how you operate. Our dry fog treats bacteria and viruses as well as mould, and EverPURE then helps resist recontamination on treated surfaces.

Questions

Common questions

Is my home safe to come back to?

Yes. Once it's been aired out, your treated home is safe to walk back into, typically the same day.

Can the fog reach mould I can't see?

The fog's droplets are roughly 7.5 microns, so it reaches every exposed surface the air touches. Where there's a known problem inside a wall void, and with your agreement, we can make small, discreet access points and treat the cavity directly.

Will you fix the leak?

Where water has caused damage, we strip out and dry the affected materials and treat the home. The active leak itself we diagnose and refer to the right trade.

How do you show the treatment worked?

With PureHome, your technician takes three air samples: one before treatment, one after and one outdoors as a control. An independent accredited laboratory with no affiliation to any mould testing or remediation company analyses them, and we send you the results in an easy-to-read dashboard.

CHECK WITH ELLIS/PHIL: PureHome only

What does the warranty cover?

With PureHome, if visible mould reappears within 12 months, we come back and re-treat, as long as the ventilation plan has been followed and any flagged leak has been repaired. Where there are major water issues such as active leaks, EverPURE gives about 90 days of protection.
